ILOILO City – Under a new director, the Department of Tourism (DOT) in Region 6 has set one of its directions: Digital transformation for wider service coverage amid the threat of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.

In her first online media briefing, DOT-6 officer-in-charge Cristine Mansinares said they will be maximizing the use of online and digital channels to communicate tourism-related updates and information.

“One of the key priorities we will be working on is our digital transformation,” Mansinares told the media.

Mansinares replaced Atty. Helen Catalbas who retired from the service effective April 17.

Mansinares was the Chief Promotion Tourism Officer of DOT-6. She also served as provincial tourism officer of the province of Negros Occidental.

Aside from the DOT central office-run website, Mansinares said the region’s tourism department will have its own and this will be launched soon.

“We are planning to incorporate a chat booth that will answer queries 24/7 especially those questions that are frequently asked,” she said.

“We will also maximize the use of our social media platforms in communicating tourism-related information to potential tourists and tourism stakeholders,” she added.

Some of the information they will be providing include details about tourism sites in the region especially those that are open and ready based on the assessments of local government units and the regional tourism office.

They will also give updates on COVID-19 situation in the region./PN
