MANILA – Players in the downstream oil industry have spent at least P180 million under their own corporate social responsibility (CSR) programs as the country faces the COVID-19 pandemic, the Department of Energy (DOE) said.
Oil firms extended their assistance by donating protective medical equipment and gear, giving free fuel to frontliners, fuel discounts and subsidies, and partnering with transport service providers.
“We commend our downstream oil industry for tirelessly providing much-needed assistance to their employees, clientele, and the general public, most especially to our front-liners, our present-day heroes. Now more than ever, we must stand as a united people. For us to heal as one, we must fight the pandemic as one,” Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi said in a statement.
Cusi also encouraged other players to extend their support for fellow Filipinos amid the COVID-19 crisis.
“We will always support our stakeholders and assist them in finding proactive and effective solutions to all the challenges our industry would be facing amidst this pandemic,” the Cusi added.
Meanwhile, the DOF chief said the department has assured that energy services will remain unhampered during this critical time. (PNA)
