ILOILO – The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed the construction of a P24.7-million multi-purpose building in Barangay Poblacion, Badiangan town aimed at boosting the local economy by providing a centralized hub for commerce.

The two-storey facility, known as the “Bagsakan Market”, spans 538.17 square meters and features 21 newly built stalls alongside the repair of 23 existing stalls.

It is equipped with safety features, including a fire alarm system, roll-up doors for each stall, and emergency exit stairs on both sides of the building.

DPWH Region 6 director Sanny Boy Oropel, citing a report from District Engineer Allan Rey Pajimna, said the facility will enhance economic activity by streamlining the distribution of goods while providing a safer and more organized space for vendors and consumers.

“This building will serve as a vital space for local vendors, helping to boost the town’s economy. It will also facilitate the transport of goods and services, creating additional livelihood opportunities for residents,” Oropel said.

He also underscored the importance of the facility’s safety measures, ensuring that the market remains functional and secure for all users.

The DPWH said the project reflects its commitment to improving infrastructure and supporting economic development in local communities.

Officials anticipate that the facility will have a lasting positive impact on Badiangan by fostering better business opportunities and enhancing the quality of life for residents./PN
