THE Department of Public Works and Highways Region 6 Regional Director Lea Delfinado representing Sec. Mark Villar led the groundbreaking ceremony of the Bacolod City Museum/Auditorium in Barangay Alijis, Bacolod City on Dec. 12, 2020.

The event was attended by Sen. Miguel Zubiri who facilitated the budget of the project, the Yanson family members, Cong. Greg Gasataya, and Mayor Evelio “Bing” Leonardia along with other city officials.

“The P260-million project involves the construction of a two-storey museum/auditorium with a floor area of approximately 4,800 square meters and will be constructed along the Circumferential Road on the property donated to the city by the Yanson family,” Delfinado said during the project briefing.

Delfinado added that the project is composed of a museum with a lobby, an exhibit area, a restaurant, and other offices and utilities, as well as an amphitheater with pertinent facilities and rehearsal and viewing areas. The total space requirement for the ground floor will be approximately 2,900 square meters while the total space requirement for the second floor will be approximately 1,900 square meters.

As a green building certified project, the development of the museum will be sustainable, with the use of environment-friendly and energy efficient materials and facilities.

The construction of the project is nothing short of historic as the people of Bacolod had always longed for an iconic museum/auditorium that will showcase their culture and reflect their unique taste and lifestyle.

The Bacolod City Museum/Auditorium will usher in a brand new era of cultural preservation in Bacolod and will serve as an institution dedicated to the conservation and celebration of the rich culture, art and history of the city. In line with that, the museum/auditorium is expected to contribute to the education, cultural and tourism goals of the city and aid in its economic and cultural revitalization./PN
