ANTIQUE – The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has committed to install two weighbridges in the province.

According to DPWH, the first weighbridge was placed in Barangay Guinsang-an, Hamtic town while the area for the other one is yet to be determined.

After the installation of the newly calibrated equipment, DPWH conducted a dry run that will run until Oct. 18.

“Per request ni Gov. (Cadiao) to test the newly calibrated equipment owhich was due for installation even before the Egaña bridge incident. Dry run pa man lang man so, sara lang anay pero darwa ang inug-install sa Antique,” said Primrose J. Zamora, designated information officer for DPWH Antique.

Before the Egaña bridge collapse on Sept. 26, Gov. Rhodora Cadiao already requested DPWH to install a weighbridge to measure the weight of vehicles, especially, trucks traversing Antique roads.

For his part, Jeylourd P. Riofrir, Engineer II of DPWH Region 6, explained that through this weighbridge, trucks and other vehicles which do not follow the minimum standard weight will be determined immediately.

If the said vehicle is found overloaded, DPWH will forward the apprehension form to the Land Transportation Office which will be the one to penalize the vehicle.

“Dira ta mabal-an kong overload sya, it’s through the implementing rules and regulation of RA 8794 which is the anti-truck overloading. May sari-sari ni siya nga coding, codes sang truck kag may ara sya corresponding gross vehicle weight nga allowable lang sa iya. Kag we have a limit of 13.5 tons per axle,” Riofrir said.

He added that Cadiao wants to have a permanent area where the DPWH personnel can perform their operation 24/7.

Gapangita kita subong kang possible lot, kay ma-request daw si Governor Cadiao kang station na gid nga operation. For that, mapasa lang kita request sa regional office and we will wait for the approval,” Riofrir said. (With a report from Antique PIO)/PN
