ILOILO – The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) must constantly monitor the progress of its infrastructure projects in this province to ensure that its contractors meet these projects’ timelines, according to the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) in a resolution.
Resolution proponent SP member Renee Valencia said there have been complaints about delays in DPWH projects such as roads.
She cited as example the road project in Barangay Trapiche, Oton town.
“Ang natabo particularly sa Trapiche, Oton kon madumdoman ninyo from Monday to Friday grabe ang ulan. Grabe gid kalain ang sitwasyon,” said Valencia.
Unfinished infrastructure projects put at risk the safety of the commuting public, she stressed.
The SP resolution also urged DPWH to “facilitate and maintain alternate routes” and “coordinate with local officials for traffic management.”
Meanwhile, SP member Domingo Oso Jr. urged DPWH contractors to put reflectorized warning signs in their road construction projects.
According to Valencia, the SP should summon DPWH regional director Wenceslao Leaño Jr. if these public concerns are not addressed.
DPWH has allotted P31.956 billion for the implementation this year of various infrastructure projects (road and bridge widening, flood control, etc.) in various provinces of Western Visayas./PN
