DPWH paves 1.32-km access road to tourist destination in northern Iloilo

ILOILO City – Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), Iloilo 3rd District Engineering Office, in convergence with the Department of Tourism (DOT) has completed the construction of the first phase of access road leading to the hidden Manlud Falls in Brgy. Sto. Rosario, Ajuy, Iloilo.

Public Works secretary Mark Villar said the first phase involves construction of two-lane, 1.32-kilometer long portion of Sitio Calubihan-Sitio Manlud Road in the amount of P15.45 million.

β€œThis is just the beginning of a multi-year project that will facilitate the easier access to local and international tourists to this waterfall in Ajuy and benefit locals residing along the road,” Villar said.

In addition, OIC-District Engineer Flordelis C. Enriquez of DPWH-Iloilo 3rd District Engineering Office, said an additional 1.41-kilometer, two-lane road will be implemented next year as it is included in the proposed FY 2021 General Appropriations Act of the district.

Engr. Enriquez said an amount of P22-million is needed to complete the whole stretch of the said tourism road under its second and final phase.

The said project is one of the many tourism roads being implemented by DPWH, Iloilo 3rd DEO in convergence with DOT, which will promote tourism industry in the northern part of Iloilo and help in the improvement of the quality of life of its people./PN
