ILOILO City – The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) – Iloilo First District Engineering Office is currently widening some sections in the Iloilo-Antique road by turning two-lane sections to four lanes.
Based on the agency’s press release, a budget of P87.045 million was earmarked which will be used for the road widening with a total length of 2.549 kilometers.
The intermittent sections in the towns of Oton, Tigbauan, Guimbal, Miagao and San Joaquin will be covered by the project.
Specifically, these areas are in Barangay Trapiche in Oton, Barangay Tupan in Tigbauan, Barangay Nanga in Guimbal, Barangay Kirayan in Miagao and Barangay Tapikan in San Joaquin.
According to district engineer Nonie Viyar, travel time will be reduced significantly by about 30 minutes.
Further, she said products and commodities will be transported easier and faster from Iloilo City to Antique province and vice versa.
In addition, the project involves earthworks to include clearing and grubbing, removal of trees in coordination with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources.
Also part of the project is the removal of obstruction/illegal structures, excavation, embankment and subgrade preparation; concreting of two more lanes (one lane at both sides of the existing two-lane, two-way road) with Portland Concrete Cement Pavement (PCCP); construction of drainage and slope protection.
