DPWH ‘sorry’ for Bacolod flooding

BACOLOD City – The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) – Bacolod Engineering District issued a public apology relative to the floods that occurred on June 5 in some barangays.

Nagapangayo ako sang pasensya sa mga pumuluyo sa natabo nga pagbaha. Wala dayon nakita ang solusyon kag indi gilayon maobra,” said District Engineer Jaime Javellana.

He asked the public to give chance to the government to improve the city’s drainage system.

But Javellana also appealed to the public to properly dispose their garbage as these cause clogging to drainage systems.

Recently, DPWH and the city government jointly conducted a cleanup drive.

A child was injured in Barangay Alijis when a portion of a perimeter fence of the Bacolod Memorial Park collapsed on June 5, according to the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO).

Another minor and a senior citizen living along the river bank of Barangay Taculing incurred minor injuries. They were brought to the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital here.

Fifteen families from Purok San Jose 2 in Barangay Sum-ag evacuated to the village gymnasium. They were provided with dome-type tents after their homes were reached by three-foot-high floodwaters.

In Barangay Montevista, 30 individuals evacuated to a gymnasium due to creek overflow. Families dwelling along the bank of the creek were affected.

Thirteen individuals also evacuated to Barangay Pahanocoy’s gymnasium.

The barangays of Mansilingan and Banago were also flooded with about two-feet-high waters./PN
