ILOILO – Residents of the 3rd District can look forward to improved infrastructure as the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) moves closer to their communities.

President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. recently signed Republic Act 12005 establishing the Iloilo 6th District Engineering Office in Pototan town.

Cong. Lorenz Defensor, sponsor of the bill, said the new engineering office will serve the municipalities of Bingawan, Badiangan, Cabatuan, Calinog, Janiuay, Lambunao, Maasin, Mina, and Pototan.

“This is a game-changer for our district,” said Defensor, emphasizing the significance of having a dedicated DPWH office focused on infrastructure projects in the area.

Currently, the 3rd District shares resources with the 4th District’s engineering office in Dumangas.

“With our own engineering office, DPWH can concentrate fully on implementing and maintaining our infrastructure projects, including critical roads and bridges such as the Panay East-West Road and Central Panay Link,” Defensor added.

Defensor expressed gratitude to President Marcos for supporting the establishment of the engineering office, as well as to his brother, Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr. and DPWH regional director Engr. Sanny Boy Oropel.

Funding for the construction of the district engineering office in Pototan and the hiring of personnel is set to be sourced from the national government’s 2024 annual budget. Operations are targeted to commence by the end of 2025./PN
