Bacolod City-The Department of Public Works and Highways(DPWH)-Region 6 turned over to this city the second newly constructed evacuation center situated in City Heights Subd., Barangay Taculing.
The new structure is worth P39.5 million, was inaugurated yesterday, March 3.
The first evacuation center was turned over by the DPWH on February 14, 2020, and it is situated in Barangay Vista Alegre worth P36 million.
Congressman Greg Gasataya, who facilitated the two projects said, the newly turned-over evacuation center involves the construction of a standard permanent evacuation center/multi-purpose covered court that can cater to approximately 106 households during a disaster.
This permanent evacuation center and the multi-purpose covered court are resilient, sensitive, and compliant to DPWH standards, he added.
Gasataya also said this aims to help minimize the risk in times of calamities and would ensure the safety of the users.
It has an amenities of anaerobic baffled reactor cistern tank; reception area; mess hall; kitchen; laundry area; toilet and bath; stage; play area; storage; administrative office; electrical room; and basketball court.
It has also a prayer room; breastfeeding room; clinic; conjugal room and consult room that can be utilized by the people while in the center.
Leonardia clarified that the turned-over of the new evacuation center was just only a “symbolic turn-over” because there is no official turn-over yet.
But, the mayor is considering utilizing the structure also as an isolation facility.
The activity was led by DPWH-Region 6 director Tiburcio Canlas, Mayor Evelio Leonardia and Gasataya./PN
