THE LATEST unusual Google search revolves around the Mexican beer Corona and the coronavirus with a number of people being worried that the beer may be a cause of the spread of the virus. The point that this involves alcohol may reflect poorly on the people asking this question.
Basically anyone who uses Dr. Google for medical advice will get the level of advice that will eventually wipe out humans.
As a retired Science teacher I am, however, going to devote most of Friday afternoon to resolving this question and will report back later â if I survive.

A lazy delivery
The CNN website included the article headlined âUber suffers another blow as it loses McDonaldâs delivery monopoly in the UKâ. The specifics of the matter are irrelevant, itâs the general idea of ordering home delivery of a hamburger. Who could be so lazy?
Originally it was only Pizza that was home delivered and that was mainly because it was a novelty and we were also too lazy to drive or sometimes too drunk to drive. Surely it should have stayed at that level, but the cuisine has improved to top quality restaurants delivery as well as some at the other end of the culinary scale.
The time of hunting and gathering has moved to the phoning and waiting. There are even some new apartments where because space is at a premium the only food preparation space is for a microwave. Some people wonder why there is a problem with obesity although it should be obvious really.
Some schools are also banning deliveries to students both because most of the food delivered is fast food and it means unknown people are entering the school premises.
Time to start cooking for yourself and packing lunches for everyone else.

A lemon for the teacher
With the start of a new school year in Australia and many other countries or the return to school in most other countries there will be a nervous expectation of which teacher they will have but what if there is no teacher?
A recent report from Ireland showed that most public secondary schools often have no applicants for teaching positions. The short list of applicants is actually short of any applicants but why?
In some cases, there may be a number of applicants but no quality applicants â a hint, run spell and grammar checks on your resume please. There must be a reason why there are less quality applicants and the general suggestions are low pay rates, increased paperwork, less positive students, expectations of solving all of societyâs problems and many more items.
If you want quality and quantity, then it must be significant changes to the profession.

Let them tell us
Australia is a free society although recently six journalists have been investigated by our Federal police in order to identify the sources they have used. This also includes their data and their employer’s data if a court warrant is issued.
The journalists face possible jail time for releasing information, basically often the material that upsets or criticizes the government of the day.
We and everyone else needs a free press so that the truth can be discovered and revealed. Having journalists facing jail, or worse spending time in jail does nothing to make a country better or freer.
Let them find the truth and tell us.

Time is running out
The Doomsday Clock, indicating how close we are to destroying our selves, has moved to 100 seconds. The symbolism of this may be more obvious if you stop and remain silent for the 100 seconds and then notice the noise of the rest of the day. It isnât much of a break.
We need to do something soon and hope they don’t apply daylight saving or we are all doomed. (dfitzger@melbpc.org.au)/PN
