MANILA – “Disagreements” delayed the drafting of the Articles of Impeachment against Supreme Court Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno.
Originally scheduled for today, the drafting will be moved to Monday next week at the earliest, said Rep. Reynaldo Umali, chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Justice.
“Hindi namin natapos iyong Articles of Impeachment kasi hindi kami magkasundo kung ilan iyong isasama,” Umali said. “Ang gusto noong iba comprehensive talaga. Pero this is really a strong case.”
Umali said they will include in the complaint allegations related to Sereno’s alleged failure to file statements of assets, liabilities and net worth, and lavish lifestyle.
“Probably remove some that may not be that strong. But when you look at it in its entirety, doon lumalabas iyong persona niya. Lumalabas iyong psych disorder,” the lawmaker said.
Atty. Lorenzo “Larry” Gadon, who filed the impeachment complaint, made 27 allegations as he accused Sereno of committing culpable violation of the Constitution, betrayal of public trust, corruption, and other high crimes./PN
