Draw lots to settle ties in 50 BSKE bets

BACOLOD City – The fate of 50 candidates in the recent barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections (BSKE) here will be decided by chance.

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) is set to hold a draw lots today to break ties among candidates from 19 barangays.

Forty-four SK kagawad candidates and six barangay kagawad candidates tied. They are from barangays 3, 6, 8, 9, 10, 11, 19, 21, 24, 25, 26, 29, 30, 31, 32, 33, 34, 37, and Montevista.

Kathrina Trinio-Caña, the City Comelec officer, said the poll body allows this method for determining election winners in the event of a tie.

She also confirmed that other winning candidates have already been proclaimed.

Meanwhile, Trinio-Caña expressed her gratitude to all those who participated and contributed to the peaceful and orderly conduct of the elections.

She also announced that the honoraria for poll workers will be released on Nov. 8 and 9, although the venue for this has not yet been announced.

The electoral board chair is set to receive a P10,000 while a poll clerk and third member will receive P9,000. The support staff will receive P5,500./PN
