ILOILO City – Ilonggo senator Franklin Drilon committed to help finance the redevelopment of the public plazas in the districts of Molo and Mandurriao.

Some P30-million fund for the two plazas were realigned for the consumables needed in the coronavirus test laboratory currently being constructed in Barangay San Pedro, Molo.

According to Mayor Jerry Treñas, Drilon made the commitment during a virtual meeting Friday last week.

The city government is prioritizing its coronavirus test laboratory. It hopes to operate the facility before September ends.

Treñas said the beautification of the plazas can wait while the health of the city’s residents could not.

“Unahon naton anay ang kaayuhan sang aton mga pumuluyo,” said Treñas.

As of Sept. 21, Iloilo City recorded a total of 1,847 cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), data from the Department of Health Region 6 showed.

But with 1,073 cases having recovered and 35 deaths, the city’s active COVID-19 cases stood at 739.

People can catch COVID-19 from others who have the virus. The disease can spread from person to person through small droplets from the nose or mouth which are spread when a person with COVID-19 coughs or exhales.

These droplets also land on objects and surfaces around the person. Other people then catch COVID-19 by touching these objects or surfaces, then touching their eyes, nose or mouth./PN
