BACOLOD City – Motorists must be more responsible while driving, according to Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital (CLMMRH) chief Julius Drilon.
Drilon said vehicular accident is the fifth leading cause of deaths at the hospital in 2017.
There were 725 vehicular accident-related admissions in the hospital last year, CLMMRH records showed.
Of the number, 85 percent involved men. That year, 25 percent of the admissions resulted to death, Drilon added.
In the first quarter of the year, the hospital has recorded a 15-percent increase in the number of discharged patients involved in vehicular crashes.
Mortality rate of patients involved in the crashes also surged to 30 percent in the same period, Drilon said.
The CLMMRH urges motorists to strictly observe traffic rules. They must wear helmets, buckle up their seatbelts, avoid driving when intoxicated by too much alcohol, and stop texting or answering phone calls while driving, Drilon stressed.
