Drive targets online sellers of pork products

SAN JOSE, Antique – By also monitoring online sellers of pork-based products from outside of Western Visayas, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Antique provincial office hopes to prevent the entry of African swine fever (ASF) in the province.

“We are intensifying our campaign. There are reports about online selling of pork-based products from other places,” said Lynna Joy Cardinal, DTI Antique information officer.

A random check of online sellers in Antique is being carried out.

Pork-based products from areas affected by ASF are prohibited in Antique.

“We also would like consumers in the province to be informed about Provincial Ordinance 2020-242 that prohibits the trading of canned goods and other food items containing pork,” Cardinal said.

The ordinance disallows the carrying, transport, shipment, distribution, and sale of live pigs, boar semen, pork, and pork products from areas affected by ASF in Luzon and Mindanao.

“We have to step-up our campaign. Pork-based products sold online could still get through Antique’s borders,” she said. (PNA/PN)
