ILOILO City – The nine-year-old boy who drowned in the Salog River in Sitio Paraiso, Barangay Cubay, Jaro district on Monday, Oct. 17, was found in Barangay Hinactacan, La Paz district around 6:30 a.m. yesterday.

John Eric Gallo Labrador was the eldest of three siblings and a resident of Barangay Cubay.

He and some friends took a bath in the river. One of them allegedly kicked the boy into the water.

According to his grandmother, Gallo didn’t know how to swim.

A joint rescue operation was immediately launched by the Bureau of Fire Protection, Philippine Coast Guard and other volunteers.

“Birthday ya pa ni tani subong,” Gallo’s father said yesterday.

The boy’s body was brought to the Gegato-Abecia Funeral Homes and Crematory./PN
