ILOILO City – A drug suspect managed to evade arrest in Barangay Igbarawan, Patnongon, Antique, police said.
The 40-year-old resident Salustiano Chioco allegedly sold shabu to a poseur-buyer for P1,200 around 11:25 a.m. on Monday.
The authorities however failed to arrest Chioco – a drug surrenderee and a former kagawad – after he fired at them.
Joint elements of the Provincial Drug Enforcement Unit and the Patnongon municipal police station staged the buy-bust operation.
Among the items that were recovered from the crime scene were seven sachets of suspected shabu, the marked money and a lighter.
Chioco also left his motorcycle, which the police impounded.
A hot pursuit operation was launched to arrest the suspect.
‘Reckless’ Roxas man arrested
Charged with reckless imprudence resulting in homicide, a man was arrested in Barangay 3, Roxas City.
The 27-year-old Mark Vence Abella of Rio Grande Subdivision faces Criminal Case No. C-18-17284-08.
He was caught around 9:40 a.m. on Tuesday on the strength of an arrest warrant the court issued in relation to his criminal charge.
Abella was detained in the lockup facility of the Roxas City police station.
A bail bond worth P12,000 was recommended for his temporary liberty.
‘Tong-its’ lands 6 persons in jail
Six individuals landed in jail after police caught them gambling in Barangay District III, Sibalom, Antique.
They were the 61-year-old Norberto Efundo, 80-year-old Jose Sancha, 52-year-old Tony Torrecillo, 57-year-old Fidel Domingo, 50-year-old Elvis Morillo, and 60-year-old Jessie Grantos – all residents of Sibalom, a police report showed.
Patrolling police officers caught them playing the card game tong-its around 5:30 p.m. on Monday.
Recovered from their possession were two decks of playing cards and P343 gambling money.
The suspects were brought to the Sibalom municipal police station where they were detained.
They were facing charges for violation of Presidential Decree 1602, which prescribes stiffer penalties on illegal gambling./PN
