BACOLOD City – A suspected drug pusher died while a policeman was injured in an antidrug operation in Barangay Poblacion 1, Sagay City, Negros Occidental around 11:15 a.m. yesterday.
Leobon Charit – the subject of the operation – was pronounced “dead on arrival” at the Lopez District Hospital in Sagay City, a police report showed.
He died of gunshot wounds on the body, the report added.
Charit – a resident of Barangay Old Sagay, Sagay City – allegedly tried to evade arrest by shooting at Senior Police Officer 1 Ronie Sanico.
Sanico, who was wearing a bullet-proof vest, got hit on the abdomen.
The other police officers then retaliated and fired at Charit.
Recovered from Charit’s possession was a .38-caliber revolver that he used in shooting Sanico.
Ten sachets of suspected shabu and the P500 marked money used in the buy-bust operation were also seized from his possession.
