Drug suspect nabbed for violating gun ban

ILOILO City – A drug pushing suspect was arrested in Barangay Q. Abeto, Mandurriao district for violating the barangay election gun ban.

The 26-year-old Mark John Alegre of Barangay Cubay, Jaro district was recently taken to the Mandurriao police station for selling a .38 revolver worth P4,500 to the police asset.

According to Mandurriao police chief Captain Val Cambel, the suspect had no record of gunrunning but was a target for illegal drugs.

Cambel added Alegre was spotted in previous police drug operations in Jaro and Mandurriao districts but was able to evade arrest.

“Target namon sya sa drugs pero indi gid sya madakpan, madasig malagyo. I believe nga ang pusil basi ginpabaligya lang sa iya or iya man para may capital sa illegal drugs,” Cambel said.

The suspect admitted to the police his involvement in the illegal drug trade.

Alegre will be charged for violating the Commission on Elections (Comelec) gun ban.

He was the second violator of the gun ban in this city since its implementation on Aug. 28.

The first violator was arrested on Aug. 30.

Taken to Iloilo City Police Station 1 was Ramon Dapita of Barangay Cabugao Norte, Pavia town. He was caught carrying a 12-inch knife./PN
