KALIBO, Aklan – The “surprise” drug tests at the Aklan District Jail in Barangay Nalook yielded negative results, according to Jail Senior Superintendent Joel Superficial, regional director of Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP).

Officers from the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Region 6 conducted on Friday random drug tests on five female and 45 male detainees, or 10 percent of the total 496 inmate population of jail facility.

Eight jail personnel also took the tests.

BJMP officers also conducted a greyhound operation in the jail.

“Pinalabas sa selda ang mga inmates saka pumasok ang sniffing dogs. Negative sa selda, negative ang inmates sa drug paraphernalia,” Jail Chief Inspector Richard Servano said.

No other contrabands were found in the facility, too.

Out of 35 jails in Western Visayas, 10 received certification from PDEA as drug-free facilities for the first quarter of 2018.

The jails are in Passi City, the Iloilo towns of Dumangas, Barotac Viejo and Pototan (Iloilo District Jail in Barangay Nanga and municipal jail); in Barangay Ungka, Jaro district; Jordan district jail and Buenavista municipal jail in Guimaras. (Aklan Forum Journal/PN)
