ILOILO – Those into drug trafficking in this province were also involved in robberies, according to Senior Supt. Cornelio Salinas, director of the Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO).
The IPPO “profiled” drug suspects here, revealed Salinas, and discovered their links to groups implicated in holdups.
He made the disclosure during a meeting with representatives of various money lending companies, banks and cooperatives the other day.
Salinas did not discount the possibility that drug traffickers were deliberately staging robberies to diver the police’s attention from the campaign against illegal drugs.
He urged most especially lending companies to cooperate with the police to avoid being victimized.
There has been a string of recent robberies victimizing collectors of money lending companies and microfinance institutions.
Salinas urged collectors to register with police stations to safeguard themselves.
“One way of preventing robbery incidents is for all lending collectors to log-in and log-out at any of our police stations for their security. Robbery groups are only around the corner waiting for the opportunity,” he warned./PN
