BACOLOD City – A fare collector was shot dead by a drunk passenger inside Ceres bus (body number 3235) around 9:40 p.m. on Friday in Talisay City, Negros Occidental.
Superintendent Adonis Rosales, Talisay City police chief, identified the victim as Christopher Baynosa, 24, of Barangay Salamanca, Toboso town.
Bus driver Jerry Beatingo rush Baynosa to the Talisay City Health Unit but was declared “dead on arrival” by the attending physician.
Baynosa had gunshot wounds on the forehead and neck.
The suspect got out of the bus after shooting Baynosa. He boarded the bus in Barangay Guinhalaran, Silay City, Beatingo told the police.
The Ceres bus was from San Carlos City on its way to Bacolod City.
A heated argument initially ensued between the shooter and Baynosa after the fare collector chided the passenger for being rowdy.
Burst of gunfire prompted the driver to stop the bus at Bangga Doña Enrica in front of Carlos Hilado Memorial State College. The suspect hurriedly left.
According to witnesses, the shooter proceeded toward Pugad Baboy in Barangay Catabla in Talisay City.
Bus passenger Jordan Tan of Barangay Villamonte, Bacolod City told the police the suspect was short and frail and was wearing a jacket and baseball cap./PN
