ILOILO City – A 19-year-old male student who allegedly assaulted a police officer at the San Rafael Municipal Police Station (MPS) has been charged.

On Monday, Dec. 4, charges for direct assault upon an agent of a person in authority and resistance and disobedience to lawful order were filed against a Grade 12 student identified as “Ronald.”

According to Police Staff Sergeant Jimmy Vargas Jr., their troops were deployed to Barangay Bagacay following a request to maintain peace and order at a benefit dance organized by the Sangguniang Kabataan on Sunday, Dec. 3.

During the event, Ronald, a resident of the barangay, was allegedly inebriated and became agitated.

Vargas stated that Police Staff Sergeant Rollen Sarceno attempted to pacify Ronald, but the latter resisted and punched the cop in the chest.

The suspect was apprehended, but he continued to act aggressively toward the police authorities, Vargas added.

Moreover, the police officer said that the lad even tried to jump out of the patrol car while they were en route to the hospital for medical attention before bringing Ronald to the municipal police detention facility. (With a report from RMN Iloilo 774)/PN
