Drunk trike driver discharges shotgun, 3 hurt

BACOLOD City – Three people were wounded after a drunk tricycle driver allegedly discharged an improvised shotgun in Sitio Tap-ok, Barangay Enclaro in Binalbagan, Negros Occidental on Thursday morning.

Police identified the victims as Analyn Tambongan, 51; Arlene Guarin, 47; and Cyrus Tambungan, 53, all residents of the said place.

The suspect, meanwhile, was identified as 41-year-old Rolin Estrella.

Binalbagan town police chief Major Randy Babor said the sitio was celebrating a fiesta.

One of the residents, who was holding a drinking session, refused to give the suspect a drink. The drinking party also allegedly provoked Estrella by making fun of him.

Estrella then returned to his house and pulled out the improvised firearm.

The wounded were rushed to the Binalbagan Infirmary for treatment, while Estrella fled.

Police recovered two live rounds of ammunition and one 12-gauge casing at the crime scene.

Babor pointed out that the ammunition used was “birds-eye,” which is why the wounds incurred by the three victims were non-life-threatening.

A manhunt operation against Estrella has been launched by the local police. (Watchmen Daily Journal)/PN
