ILOILO City – A drunken son stabbed to death his father, a councilman of Barangay Ligtos, Leon, Iloilo.
Twenty-eight-year-old John Mark Cabangal, now detained at the Leon police station, regretted killing his father Romeo, 56, said Chief Inspector Cyril Octavio, municipal police chief.
The stabbing happened on Saturday around 6:30 p.m. at the Cabangal house. Romeo was eating supper when John Mark came home drunk.
According to Octavio, the son got man when his father chided him.
John Mark stabbed Romeo with a knife multiple times.
“The suspect stopped stabbing his father only when an uncle arrived,” said Octavio.
Romeo was rushed to the Aleosan District Hospital where he denied.
John Mark was taken to the Leon police station.
“He told me he was in his right mind when he killed his father. He regretted what he did and said he was willing to face charges,” said Octavio.
Policemen recovered an 11-inch knife from the Cabangal house.
A day after this Leon incident, a land dispute drove a father and his son to a fatal confrontation in Barangay Idiacacan, Pandan, Antique.
The 47-year-old Inocencio Gumboc attacked his 79-year-old father Esteban with a bolo around 2:50 a.m. on Sunday.
Esteban, though wounded, managed to shoot his son on the chest using a .38 revolver.
Both father and son died, according to Police Officer 2 Jomer Ybot of the Pandan police station./PN
