BACOLOD City – The city government here will conduct a dry run for another proposed “green route” using electric jeepneys (e-jeepneys) beginning tomorrow, January 16.
This comes after the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) approved the request to hold such traffic experimental.
Secretary-to-the-mayor Atty. Marty Go said two e-jeepneys owned by the city government will accommodate passengers for free.
In December last year, the Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) approved a resolution adopting Resolution No. 15 of the Bacolod Traffic Authority Council (BTAC) proposing for a 30-day experimental within the area from the Bacolod City Government Center (BCGC) to Ayala Malls Capitol Central or South Capitol Road loop.
Go said the green route’s pickup point will be at the BCGC, then turn right to Circumferential Road, turn left to CL Montelibano Drive going to 6th Street, turn right to Lacson Street, turn left to North Capitol Road, and the drop off will be at Ayala Mall.
No public utility jeepneys are plying on the said route, he said.
“One of the purposes of the proposed green route is to decongest the traffic flow especially at the downtown area,” Go added.
Earlier, the City Planning and Development Office said it will task validators to conduct time and motion studies to determine if the proposed green route is a viable area.
To recall, on May 13, 2024, the LTFRB Region 6 issued a special permit in favor of the city government to operate eight units of e-jeepneys for a dry run for two initial routes – areas in Barangay Vista Alegre in the eastern part of the city and Barangay Cabug in the south.
The trial run covered routes not included in the city’s Local Public Transport Route Plan (LPTRP) under the Public Transport Modernization Program. It would determine if the routes will be added to the LPTRP, the city government said./PN
