SAN JOSE, Antique – The Department of Social
Welfare and Development (DSWD) in Region 6 has readied 5,000 food packs for the
poorest of the poor families and others affected by the coronavirus disease
2019 (COVID-19) in this province.
Luna Moscoso, chief of DSWD-6’s disaster response and management division, said
on April 21 that the food packs for the targeted beneficiaries in this capital
town and in Barbaza town have already been delivered on Monday.
“Each food pack is worth P360. It is composed of four cans of corned beef, four
cans of sardines, six coffee sachets, and six kilograms of rice,” Moscoso said.
For a family of five, a food pack is expected to last for two days.
“The food packs will be distributed to
the local government units of Antique that would be requesting them,” Moscoso added.
According to her, families from geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas,
along with the fourth and fifth class municipalities in this province will be
given priority in the distribution of the food packs.
Meanwhile, Libertad town mayor Mary Jean Te said that she already wrote a
letter to DSWD-6 director Ma. Evelyn Macapobre asking for food packs.
“I am making a request to the DSWD for
Libertad to be provided with 1,000 food packs,” Te said.
Libertad – northernmost town of Antique – has a rich fishing industry but lacks
rice. That is why some households there need food assistance from DSWD.
She added that the local government unit of Libertad is going to distribute a sack of rice each to around 500 households.(With a report from PNA/PN)
