ILOILO City – The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) in Western Visayas has started extending relief goods to families displaced by Tropical Storm “Paeng”.
According to Judith Tanate, chief of DSWD-6’s Disaster Response Management Division, they have so far provided P279,007 worth of assistance to families affected by “Paeng” in flooded municipalities in the provinces of Aklan and Capiz on Thursday, Oct. 27.
DSWD-6 regional director, Atty. Carmelo N. Nochete, said the regional office has enough family food packs for typhoon-affected families.
“We have non-food items, too, for the affected families,” said Nochete.
The department has so far distributed 537 family food packs.
Tanate said a request for augmentation have also been submitted by Kalibo in Aklan; Dao, Capiz; Passi City, Iloilo; and Culasi, Antique.
DSWD-6 has an available 51,581 family food packs at the regional warehouse, Negros Occidental warehouse and 28 prepositioning sites in the region.
Nochete has put on “red alert” all DSWD-6 staff. He instructed regional, provincial, city, and municipal quick response team members to be on standby for relief operations
