ILOILO City – The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Region 6 has readied its stockpile of family food packs for those who would be affected by typhoon “Rolly”.
Luna Moscoso, division chief of DSWD-6’s Disaster Response and Management Division, said a total of 34,372 food packs will augment the relief supplies of local government units (LGUs) across the region.
These food packs composed of food items were prepositioned in Antique (Caluya, Libertad, Barbaza, and Tobias Fornier); Capiz (Cuartero, Pan-ay and Maayon); Negros Occidental (Salvador Benedicto, Bago and San Carlos); Iloilo province (Miag-ao, San Rafael, Dumangas, and Carles); and Aklan (Banga).
“Ang LGUs dapat affected gid una sang typhoon. Bisan initial lang, dapat may report sila kon may affected families gid man and then they will prepare a letter of request. But in times of emergency, kon nakita naton nga indi gid makaya nga maghimu sang letter, inform lang sila sa amon, i-follow lang ang letter request basta may bases kami if pila ka pamilya ang affected,” Moscoso said.
Each relief pack, according to Moscoso, contains six kilos of rice, six sachets of coffee, 14 cans of sardines and 14 cans of meatloaf enough for two days for a family with five members.
The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration forecasted that typhoon “Rolly” – the world’s most powerful tropical cyclone yet in 2020 – will not directly hit Western Visayas.
The typhoon made its fourth landfall in Lobo, Batangas late Sunday afternoon.
Director Jose Roberto Nuñez of Office of Civil Defense Region 6 urged all LGUs across the region to be extra vigilant even while containing the spread of coronavirus disease 2019.
He said they are monitoring the weather system because of possible similar hazards brought by typhoon “Quinta” in some provinces in Region 6./PN
