ILOILO City – A Social Welfare department worker from Bacolod City did not resist when police officers arrested him for alleged illegal drug pushing in Dumangas, Iloilo.
Police identified the 30-year-old Omar Baquilar as a beneficiary data management officer at the Department of Social Welfare and Development’s Bacolod City office.
Baquilar, a resident of Barangay Tirador, Janiuay, Iloilo, handed a plastic pack of shabu worth P5,000 to an undercover officer, said Chief Inspector Rene Obregon, Dumangas police chief.
The Dumangas police and the Iloilo Police Provincial Office’s Provincial Drug Enforcement Unit staged the operation at around 7:15 p.m. on Friday in Barangay Jardin, Dumangas.
Obregon said the suspect had been under surveillance since last Thursday.
Baquilar told the undercover officer that he would get the drug from his supplier in Bacolod after office hours, said the police officer.
“When he (Baquilar) arrived at the Dumangas port from Bacolod City, he agreed to meet in Barangay Jardin. He did not resist when we handcuffed him,” Obregon said.
Police seized two more plastic packs of shabu worth P7,000 from the pocket of the suspect’s pants.
Investigators were still trying to determine who the suspect’s supplier is and if he belongs to a drug group.
“We have yet to conduct tactical interrogation to get more details,” said Obregon.
Baquilar was detained at the custodial facility of the Dumangas police station.
He faces charges for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002./PN
