DTI assures sufficient Antique rice supply

The Department of Trade and Industry assures enough rice supply in Antique despite the El Niño phenomenon in Region 6. NFA

SAN JOSE, Antique – Despite El Niño, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) assured the public of sufficient rice supply in the province.

Stable market prices of rice as of Feb. 27 mean enough supply, according to DTI-Antique trade and industry development specialist Glen Fernando.

“We have included the monitoring of the price of rice in our regular monthly price monitoring as assistance to the Department of Agriculture,” Fernando said on Monday.

Local regular milled rice is still being sold at P39 per kilogram, he added.

Fernando said accredited rice retailers acquire 50 sacks of National Food Authority (NFA) rice weekly from the NFA provincial office, which are sold at P27 per kilogram.

“We are disseminating the information to our local store owners as part of ensuring the safety of the consumers,” he added. (With PNA/PN)
