ILOILO City – Selling imported firecrackers and pyrotechnics is not allowed, announced the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Region 6.

Only locally-manufactured firecrackers and pyrotechnics must be sold, stressed Felisa Judith Degala, chief of DTI Region 6’s Consumer Protection Division.

The Trade department has prohibited the importation of firecrackers and pyrotechnics, thus anyone peddling these are likely selling smuggled items.

How can one ascertain that the firecracker or pyrotechnic is locally-produced?

Look for the Philippine Standard (PS) mark or sticker on the packaging, said Degala.

Persons caught retailing imported firecrackers and pyrotechnics face charges and administrative fines of at least P25,000.

DTI would also be confiscating the illegal merchandize, said Degala.

The regional office of DTI has inspection teams monitoring the selling of firecrackers./PN
