FOOD production is expected to catch up and boost supply to meet the demand soon, as the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) on Wednesday said manufacturers are now operating at capacity.
According to Trade Secretary Ramon Lopez, local producers are now allowed to operate beyond 50 percent capacity after the government decided to ease the skeleton workforce requirement while Luzon is under enhanced community quarantine.
“Mga two weeks ago, ating pinayagan na mag-go above 50 percent. In fact, ‘yung iba operating 80 to 90 percent, so makakahabol na tayo doon sa supply ng ibang operations ng ibang produkto dahil we allow them already to operate at capacity,” he said at a virtual briefing.
“Therefore, kung ano man ‘yung shortages na ating naramdaman ay dahil lamang sa maikling pag-limit ng output,” Lopez added, as he said plants were only allowed to operate at a limited basis previously.
There are no problems in food production, said Lopez, as there is sufficient supply of raw materials good for more than a month.
“The raw materials and inputs nila na naka-imbak mga 45 days, more than one month ang kanilang raw material. Ibig sabihin marami talaga tayong pagkain na ginagawa at ‘yung iba naka–imbentaryo na, so distribution na lang ang problema,” he explained.(GMA News)
