ILOILO City – The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Region 6 has started monitoring the prices of school supplies. The school opening is fast approaching.
DTI-6 officer-in-charge Wilhelm Malones said that based on their monitoring, the prices of school supplies this year had increased by about 75 centavos to one peso.
Last year, he recalled, most prices of school supplies did not increase over the previous year (2012).
Recently, DTI released a new list of Suggested Retail Prices (SRP) of school supplies.
Malones said consumers are now wiser and scrupulous in buying notebooks, pad papers, crayons and other school supplies from Grades 1 up.
Meanwhile, DTI Region 6 will hold a “Diskwento Caravan Balik Eskwela Edition” today and tomorrow at the Iloilo provincial capitol grounds starting at 9 a.m.
The caravan will be participated in by more than 11 retailers that will offer five to 50 percent or more discounts on all items.
Among the sellers are SM Store-Delgado, City Square, Iloilo Society Commercial, Team Sales, ITAC Smart, Jeco Distributors for electrical products, Nating’s peanut butter, Thelmie Dried Fish, Badiangan Ginger Producers Association, Sunburst Convenience Store, and A10 Botanical Products.
Products include school supplies and uniforms, shoes, bags, umbrellas, raincoats, ready-to-wear items, detergent soaps and dishwashing soaps, among others.
The caravan is held yearly by DTI prior the start of classes./PN
