ILOILO City – Twelve soldiers wounded in action were conferred the Order of Lapu-Lapu, with the rank of Kampilan.

President Rodrigo Duterte honored the following on Feb. 22 at Camp Adriano Hernandez in Dingle, Iloilo:

* Sergeant Loreto Detoyato Jr.

* Sergeant Von Carlo Torres

* Sergeant Niel Lagat

* Private First Class Joebert Porras

* Sergeant Genefir Gaston

* Sergeant Raffy Banaglorioso

* Private First Class Donald Lisbo

* Colonel Remulondo Villa

Detoyato, Torres, Lagat, and Porras were from the province of Iloilo while Gaston and Banaglorioso were from Negros Occidental.

On the other hand, Lisbo and Villa were from Capiz.

Also awarded were Staff Sergeant Fredie Raquel from North Cotabao, Corporal Irus Colipapa from Iligan City, Private First Class Ariel Ea from Sultan Kudarat; and Corporal Ronald Peligro from Bohol.

Peligro was not able to attend the awarding; he was still confined at the V. Luna Hospital in Quezon City.

Established in 2017, the Order of Lapu-Lapu is conferred by the President of the Philippines in recognition of exemplary service rendered by officials and personnel of the government as well as private individuals in significantly advancing a campaign or advocacy of the President, particularly extraordinary acts of valor and kindness.

The Order of LapuLapu, rank of Kampilan is awarded to officials and personnel of the government and private individuals seriously wounded or injured or suffered great loss of property as a direct result of their participation in an activity pursuant to a campaign or advocacy of the President.

Agriculture secretary Emmanuel Piñol, Undersecretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat, General Rey Leonardo Guerrero and Sabine Aboitiz of the Aboitiz Group assisted President Duterte in the conferment.

Four of the awardees – Detoyato, Lagat, Gaston, and Peligro – also received from the Department of Agriculture egg layer machines, a component of the KISS ME (Karne, Isda, Supply, Suportasa Masa at Ekonomiya) project that gives wounded soldiers the opportunity to further support their livelihood.

The soldiers underwent training on Feb. 19, 2018 on how to manage this egg machine, a backyard farming starter kit that allows the continuous production of eggs in a period of 16 months.

Each of the wounded-in-action soldier also got a cellular phone and will receive P50,000 worth of canned goods. (PIA6-Iloilo/PN)
