Du30 seeks int’l help for management of PH waters

“We will build strong partnerships with like-minded states, multilateral institutions, and other stakeholders that share our vision,” says President Rodrigo Duterte at the Belt and Road Forum in China.

MANILA – As part of his plan to declare some parts of the West Philippine Sea as a marine sanctuary, President Rodrigo Duterte urged the support of international community for sustainable and peaceful use of oceans and seas.

In his speech at the Belt and Road Forum in China, Duterte said the Philippines seeks to improve its management and protection of marine resources.

“As channels of transportation and communication, and a vital source of sustenance and livelihood, our oceans and seas connect and sustain us. It is thus our collective duty to promote their sustainable and peaceful use in accordance with international law,” Duterte said.

He added the country aims to “enhance cooperation in green technology” and ensure “clean and green” infrastructure systems.

“My government will do all that is necessary to realize this vision. We will build strong partnerships with like-minded states, multilateral institutions, and other stakeholders that share our vision,” he said.

“An effective belt and road cooperation should offer more than just economic returns. It must be an exercise of responsible and effective partnerships for inclusive and sustainable development,” added Duterte. /PN
