ILOILO City – A barangay captain’s son and the chief tanod of Barangay Trangca, Maasin, Iloilo died in a duel on Saturday night.
The bloody confrontation happened around 10 p.m., according to Maasin police chief, Senior Insp. Daniel Robles.
The fatalities were Demetilo Diaz, the tanod head of Barangay Trangca, and Leo Ballejo, son of Barangay Captian Roquita Ballejo.
They shot each other, said Robles.
Prior to the shooting, the two were seen binge drinking at Diaz’s house. They were with another friend, Jovito Consumo.
Diaz and Ballejo had a heated argument, police said, prompting the barangay captain’s son and Consumo to leave.
But Diaz followed them and another argument ensued.
Diaz shot Ballejo. Also armed, Ballejo shot Diaz, too.
Consumo got hit on the back.
“The victims were not immediately brought to the hospital because the barangay was remote,” said Robles.
Consumo survived. He is presently confined at the Ramon Tabiana Memorial Hospital in Cabatauan town./PN
