ILOILO City – Wilmer Deluao, a resident of Dumangas, Iloilo, was detained at their municipal police station.
The 39-year-old was accused of violating Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, a police report showed.
Officers served him a warrant of arrest at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday in Barangay PD Monfort North, Dumangas.
Deluao, who lives in Barangay Jardin, was specifically charged with the law’s “Section 5 in relation to Section 26,” the police report stated.
Section 5 stipulates penalties for the “Sale, Trading, Administration, Dispensation, Delivery, Distribution and Transportation of Dangerous Drugs and/or Controlled Precursors and Essential Chemicals.” They include “life imprisonment to death and a fine ranging from P500,000 to P10,000,000.”
Section 26, on the other hand, penalizes “any attempt or conspiracy to commit” the following: importation of any dangerous drug and/or controlled precursor and essential chemical; sale, trading, administration, dispensation, delivery, distribution, and transportation of any dangerous drug and/or controlled precursor and essential chemical; maintenance of a den, dive or resort where any dangerous drug is used in any form; manufacture of any dangerous drug and/or controlled precursor and essential chemical; and cultivation or culture of plants which are sources of dangerous drugs.
Presiding Judge Vicente Go of the Regional Trial Court Branch 68 (Dumangas) issued the warrant on July 7 and recommended no bail bond for the suspect’s temporary liberty./PN
