ILOILO – One of the suspects in the killing of a 47-year-old former seafarer in Barangay Pagdugue, Dumangas town surrendered in Bacolod City around 1:30 p.m. yesterday, June 29.
Jesus Dipus Jr. turned himself in to the Bacolod City Police Station 4.
He was a nephew of victim Cezar Dipus Jr. who was found with a gunshot wound to the neck in his house past 6 a.m. on Wednesday, June 28.
“The Police Station 4 of Bacolod coordinated with us. Jesus Jr. voluntarily surrendered to them, and right now, we are forming our team to go to Bacolod,” Dumangas Municipal Police Station (MPS) chief Police Major Kenn Albert Lepsia told Panay News.
Witnesses said Jesus Dipus Jr. and his father, Jesus Sr., were seen boarding different buses after the victim’s body was found.
“We don’t know the participation of Jesus Sr. yet. But since there is a confession from Jesus Jr. being the principal participant in the commission of the crime, we will have him in custody only because technically he could not be arrested due to the lapse of the hot pursuit,” Lepsia added.
He added: “Unless Jesus Jr. confesses his father’s involvement, we can make the arrest and press charges. But right now, only the son surrendered.”
Cezar retired as a seafarer in 2020 and has been in their ancestral home alone while his wife and child were in Manila.
The Scene of the Crime Operatives recovered two empty slugs and found indications of forced entry, but none of the victim’s belongings seemed missing.
