DUMANGAS and Concepcion advanced to the men’s volleyball finals in the 2017 Biron Cup Inter-municipal Invitational tournament after beating their semifinals foes at the Dumangas covered court.
Dumangas defeated Pavia 25-16, 24-26, 25-18, 25-20, while Concepcion scored 25-19, 25-17, 11-25, 25-19 against Maasin.
The men’s and women’s volleyball finals — San Miguel versus Pavia in the distaff side — may be held on the same day, according to Tournament Director Ruding Villaruz.
“We do not have the schedule for the championship series yet,” Villaruz said. “We will be meeting on Wednesday to finalize and we will announce it [as soon as possible].”
In men’s basketball, Barotac Viejo snapped its losing skid after a 97-68 victory over Carles at the Anilao gym. Barotac Viejo improved its win-loss slate to 3-4 while Carles slid to 1-5.
In Group A, New Lucena, Janiuay and Cabatuan all ended up with 3-2 but it is New Lucena that will join Mina (5-0) in the quarterfinals by virtue of superior quotient.
In Group B, it was a four-way tie on top for Oton, Santa Barbara, Pototan, and Leganes (4-2) but for the same reason as in Group A, Oton and Pototan will advance to the next stage./PN
