DUMARAO Vice Squad and Hercor College Jaguars finished on top at the close of the 15th Dumarao Mayor’s Cup elimination round at the covered gym in Dumarao, Capiz.
Jaguars clinched its third straight victory in the tournament Sunday night as it dominated TJ Roxas City Squad 95-74. Jim Sencil and Lovermon Lustria anchored the offense with 23 and 15 points, respectively.
But Jaguars failed to clinch the outright finals seat after a 78-90 loss to Dumarao Vice Squad, which relied on the 17 points of Jefferson Sarmiento and 16 markers of Mark Ceniza.
On Saturday night Dumarao Vice Squad also scored a 97-88 victory over cellar-dwelling Double J Construction. Adrian Dellaban lead the charge with 13 points and Andee Ticzon, Sean Lucero and Elvin Lencioco had 12 points each.
Double J Construction, meanwhile, ended its campaign in the tournament with a 92-71 upset over Lennard Car Center, with Armar Talimay top-scoring with 25 points and Nic Billones adding 16 markers.
Dumarao and Jaguars both ended the eliminations with a 3-1 win-loss card but it was the former that took the top seed due to the “win over the other” rule. Lennard (2-2) was on third place while TJ Roxas edged out Double J in the semifinals even with identical 1-3 cards.
The knockout semifinals will be on July 21. Dumarao will take on TJ Roxas and Jaguars will face Lennard Car Center. The knockout championship match will be held the following day./PN
