DUMARAO, Capiz – Mayor Edgardo Arancillo tested positive for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

The local chief executive announced this himself yesterday through an official statement.

Arancillo shared that he initially experienced body aches and runny nose on May 11.

Ever cautious, on May 18 he had himself swabbed then sought hospital confinement.

Yesterday, May 19, his swab test result came out. He contracted SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19.

Contact tracing for Arancillo’s possible close contacts was immediately launched.

Ang COVID ara gid sa aton palibot. Gani ginapangabay ko gid ang tanan nga magsunod sa mga pahanungdan nga aton ginapatuman,” said Arancillo.

Yesterday, Dumarao’s recorded COVID-19 cases reached 41. The latest two cases were a 46-year-old male resident of Barangay Poblacion Ilaya and a 76-year-old male resident of Barangay Poblacion Ilawod.

The Poblacion Ilaya case is symptomatic and is being isolated at the town’s quarantine facility.

On the other hand, the Poblacion Ilawod case is confined at a private hospital in Iloilo City.

Both cases had no history of traveling outside the country.

The most common symptoms of COVID-19 are fever, tiredness, and dry cough.

Some patients may have aches and pains, nasal congestion, runny nose, sore throat or diarrhea. These symptoms are usually mild and begin gradually. Some people become infected but don’t develop any symptoms and don’t feel unwell.

Most people recover from the disease without needing special treatment.

Older people, and those with underlying medical problems like high blood pressure, heart problems or diabetes, are more likely to develop serious illness.

People can catch COVID-19 from others who have the virus. The disease can spread from person to person through small droplets from the nose or mouth which are spread when a person with COVID-19 coughs or exhales.

These droplets also land on objects and surfaces around the person. Other people then catch COVID-19 by touching these objects or surfaces, then touching their eyes, nose or mouth./PN
