Dumarao team wins town caging league

DUMARAO Vice Squad captured the 15th Dumarao Mayor’s Cup basketball title after beating Lennard Car Center 80-73 on Sunday at the covered gym in Dumarao, Capiz.

Most Valuable Player awardee Jeffrey Espinosa led the way with 17 points. Mark Ceniza added 13 markers while Sean Lucero had 12 points built around 3-pointers for Dumarao.

With the victory, the Dumarao team earned the slot to play in an exhibition game on Aug. 2 against a group of celebrities as part of the Capiz town’s fiesta.

Dumarao had a slow start in the finals – it went behind by as much as 15 points before making a huge fight-back in the third quarter to cut the deficit to 4 markers.

The home team was able to tie the scores with seven minutes left in the game on baskets by Elvin Lencioco and Andee Ticson before pulling away for good with hits from Ceniza and Lucero.

Cris Loyola topped Lennard Car’s scoring with 25 points. Felino Arenal and Misael Poral added 13 and 10 points, respectively.

On their way to the finals, Dumarao ousted TJ Roxas City 81-76 while Lennard Car dominated Hercor College Jaguars in overtime 90-86.

Jaguars salvaged a third-place finish with a 69-56 victory over TJ Roxas City. Jesan De La Cruz finished with 17 points while Jim Sencil added 11 for Jaguars./PN
