MANILA – President Rodrigo Duterte “is a murderer,” claimed Sen. Leila de Lima.
By defending the accused police officers, President Rodrigo Duterte admitted that he was behind the killing of Albuera, Leyte mayor Rolando Espinosa Sr., stressed the senator.
And this discloses the President’s hand in extrajudicial killings (EJKs) across the country, she said Thursday, Dec. 7.
Duterte on Wednesday said he will not allow the police officers tagged to the death of Espinosa to go to prison.
The President’s statement was an admission that he was the “mastermind” of Espinosa’s killing, de Lima said.
“That says it all about the extrajudicial killing phenomenon,” she said.
“Together with Edgar Matobato’s testimony on the Davao Death Squad, Duterte’s admission seals his fate as the Father of all EJKs — first in Davao City, now throughout the Philippines, with the number of his victims now beyond the 5,000 mark and still rising,” said the senator.
She also claimed that Superintendent Marvin Marcos, chief of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group – Eastern Visayas, and other members of the team that raided Espinosa’s cell were part of the infamous Davao Death Squad.
In October Marcos was removed from his post over his alleged role in the mayor’s slay but got reinstated on Duterte’s order.
“Now we all know that the order and command to murder Espinosa in cold blood came from none other than the President himself,” said de Lima. “People of the Philippines, your President is a murderer!”
The former Justice secretary also urged the public to pray that Duterte “sees the light and puts a stop to all the killings in time for Christmas.”/PN
