MANILA – President Rodrigo Duterte has appointed two justices of the Court of Appeals (CA) to two vacancies in the Supreme Court.

The two appointees were justices Mario Lopez and Edgardo Delos Santos. They will replace

Associate Justice Francis Jardeleza and Senior Associate Justice Antonio Carpio, who retired on Sept. 26 and Oct. 26 respectively.

Lopez, who is from La Union, took up his law degree at the San Beda University before taking up master of laws at the University of Santo Tomas.

Lopez was a former prosecutor of the Tanodbayan (Office of the Ombudsman) in 1985. He also served as executive judge of Batangas City in 1997 before his appointment to the Court of Appeals.

Meanwhile, Delos Santos is a Cebu-based appellate court justice who earned his bachelor of laws degree from the University of San Carlos in Cebu.

Prior to his SC appointment, Delos Santos served as a municipal trial court judge in Dumaguete and later became regional trial court judge in Bacolod before his appointment to the appellate court.
