MANILA – President Rodrigo Duterte’s son Paolo and daughter Sara are set to run for various positions in Davao City during the 2019 midterm elections.
Paolo Duterte will return to politics after stepping down as Davao City’s vice mayor last year. He filed his certificate of candidacy for Davao City 1st District representative.

Paolo resigned last year amid allegations that he was involved in the smuggling of P6.4 billion worth of shabu from China into the Philippines through the Bureau of Customs. The Office of the Ombudsman is investigating him.
Sara Duterte-Carpio, meanwhile, decided to seek re-election as Davao City mayor despite clamors for her to join the senatorial race. She will file her COC on Monday.
“She’s not interested to run for senator. Last time we talked, she still wanted to stay as Davao City mayor,” said Hugpong ng Pagbabago secretary-general Anthony del Rosario.
“Definitely, she’s not running for Senate. That’s what she said. And she is saying she can’t leave Davao City. There’s so much she wants to do that she hasn’t accomplished yet,” he added.
Their brother Sebastian “Baste” Duterte was reportedly eyeing the mayoral post in Danao City. Sara said Baste will reveal his decision with regard to his “future plans” Monday./PN
