MANILA – Former Iloilo City councilor Lyndon Acap has been appointed to the city’s Sangguniang Panlungsod.

President Rodrigo Duterte signed Acap’s appointment letter on May 16.

“Pursuant to the provisions of existing laws, you are hereby appointed…vice Jeffrey P. Ganzon,” part of the letter read.

In November 2016, members of Iloilo City Council unanimously voted Acap to fill in the vacancy left by then councilor Ganzon who became the vice mayor.

Councilor R Leone Gerochi endorsed Acap as Ganzon’s replacement.

“(Y)ou may qualify and enter upon the performance of the duties of the office, furnishing this Office, the Civil Service Commission and the Commission on Elections with copies of your oath of office,” Acap’s appointment letter further stated.

Ganzon was appointed vice mayor of Iloilo City in October 2017 after then vice mayor Jose Espinosa III replaced then mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog.

Mabilog was dismissed by the Office of the Ombudsman for unexplained wealth.

Acap welcomed his appointment.

“Nagtaas gid akon morale tungod sang pag-endorse sang city council,” said Acap yesterday.

He also thanked the Liberal Party for its trust and confidence in him.

Under the rules of succession in the Local Government Code, the party of the city council member who caused the vacancy should be the one to nominate a replacement.

Ganzon was a member of Liberal Party when he ran for city councilor in the 2016 election.

Yesterday Acap took his oath of office before Mayor Espinosa.

He said he would take the chairmanship of any committee that the city council would assign to him.

Acap also bared his intention to run for city councilor in next year’s election under the leadership of Espinosa.

Acap served as city councilor for three consecutive terms from 2007 to 2016./PN
