MANILA – President Rodrigo Duterte woos lawmakers on Labor Day to fully protect the rights of the Filipino workers by passing measures securing tenure and self-organization.

Duterte hailed the valuable contributions of Filipino workers in the country and abroad in nation-building during his message on Wednesday.

“Our nation’s strength has always dependent on the hard work, grit and perseverance of our labor force,” said Duterte.

He added that every year, Filipino workers’ valuable contributions are being celebrated every year not only in the struggle to provide a better life for the people, but in building the foundations of a more promising future for the succeeding generations.

“Today, we celebrate the working class not as a tool of employers, but as an essential catalyst for our nation’s overall progress,” the President said.

Duterte also said that he remains hopeful the Congress will act on the Executive Order No. 51 he issued a year ago that would put an end to contractualization.

“This is why my administration has implemented measures within its powers to afford full protections to labor and promote equal work opportunities for all,” he stressed./PN
